Such were the first attacks in defense debate in Parliament – while Skei … – Aftenposten

Høringssal 1 was packed as the starting gun went autumn debate on future defense, in Parliament. Officers’ Association, representatives of soldiers, defense industry and, not least, local politicians in the numerous defense municipalities stood in line to criticize or defend the Government’s proposal for future defense.

Viewers who followed TV transmission noted that the Liberal member of the Foreign and defense committee, party leader Trine Skei Grande, played Pokemon Go during the hearing.

This is the choices that should be on defense

Deterrence or retain their ability to deal with emergencies? Here is the overview of the most important decisions the Parliament to take, and that opposition parties, grassroots and advocacy organizations are now doing everything they can to influence:

  • If Norway pursue deterrence and overriding dependence on NATO, or build up the defense so that it can even manage conflicts of a certain size?

  • How much of the military’s needs can and should be covered by collateral, in transportation and supply, and employees with specialist?
  • will the money fast enough that the Armed combat power can be increased even in the early years to come? Norway must quickly reach the target of two percent of GDP to defense, NATO agreed?
