Listhaug: – Going to do everything I can to make sure we get as few asylum seekers as … VG

It will probably get twice as many asylum seekers next year. But innvandringsminister Sylvi Listhaug (progress party) says she will do everything she can to restrict the flow.

I believe that it is a goal that the figure should be as low as possible, but we must deal with it the same what. It able we to make in the last year. But I’m going to do everything I can to make sure we get as few asylum seekers as possible next year, says immigration and integreringsminister Sylvi Listhaug to VG.

Fresh UDI’s forecasts estimate that it most likely will get 8250 asylum seekers coming to Norway next year – twice as many as this year’s forecasts indicate.

Listhaug says it is still important to keep ankomstene low.

– We have a large integreringsoppgave in front of us and I think it is important to help in the vicinity. If there are very many here, adding up a larger part of the budget to help here, says Listhaug VG.

More asylum seekers

One of the main reasons that the ankomstene to Norway can increase, is that the EUROPEAN commission will remove border controls.

border controls is an extraordinary measure introduced under the flyktningkrisen in the last year, when hundreds of thousands of refugees went up through Europe. 31.145 asylum seekers came to Norway.

– the Goal is to go back to a functioning Schengen area as soon as possible, underlined the EUROPEAN commission in september.

If it happens, it can get more asylum seekers to Norway, estimates the UDI.

– If the border controls are removed, there will be increased movement in Europe. There is every reason to believe, says Listhaug VG.

– border controls are important. In Italy sits the over 100,000 who have come from the african mainland, and there is good reason to think that many of them will see to the north, perhaps some to Norway. And in Greece there are many thousands who do not come forward, so that the situation is now, and that might be able to imagine it. Also internally in Europe, there may be many who are not registered, which will further, says Listhaug.

– Hope border controls continues

Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Austria and Germany have been allowed to have border controls within the Schengen area until mid-november.

In a meeting with justisministrene from these countries went to Anders Anundsen in the previous week for a common front against the EUROPEAN union – to extend the controls.

Norway has border controls on ferries that come to Norway from Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

– Why do we need border controls when ankomstene is so low?

– One of the reasons for it, is that it is more difficult to move around in Europe now, and it has done that we have been given more control of the situation. It is not only border control in the Uk is important, but it is what happens elsewhere in Europe, and therefore I am hoping that border controls continue, says Listhaug to VG.

Still lower than the 2014

There is a beregningsutvalg from the Norwegian directorate of Immigration (UDI), House (UNE) and the police who make forecasts for how many asylum seekers will come to Norway.

8.250 of asylum-seekers in 2017 is twice as high as in the years, it is still lower than what was normal before flyktningkrisen. It came 11.480 asylum seekers to Norway in 2014 and 11.983 in 2013.

Listhaug stresses that the outlook for next year is uncertain.

– It is very difficult to know what will happen. In the year ended the ankomsttallene on something completely different than it initially was, there was an explosion in the autumn, says Listhaug.

Although ankomstene to Norway still will be lower than normal next year, the plan is not the government to say yes to some additional kvoteflyktninger in 2017. In Denmark, debate has raged about a low number of asylum-seekers should mean more asylum seekers.

Listhaug believe Norway already has a huge job to integrate.

– We now have large tasks ahead of us to integrate those who already have come here, it is not “only just”. There are many who learn language to get a job and we see challenges related to lavinntektsfamilier. There is a lot to grasp, so we have more than enough to work with, says Listhaug.

Look at the rigor

When the UDI, the UNE and the police make forecasts, they are also on the innstrammingstiltakene that Norway and neighbouring countries have done. They believe it can have an effect on the ankomstene.

the percentage of granted permits for afghans who seek asylum in Norway is now down to 25 per cent, against eight per cent for iraqis. In september, it had come 2.265 asylum seekers to Norway, against the 4970 to Denmark and 19.860 to Sweden. Listhaug claims it now has become clearer, out there in the world, that Norway has become a more stringent countries.

Only a year since we came into government, we have had lower arrivals than Denmark. It is because it now has set himself a the impression that in Norway it is strictly, and that if you do not have a claim to protection, it is a waste to travel here, says Listhaug.
