– We must have more wolves in Norwegian nature! – Nationen

the Demonstration was under the auspices of the Ulvens day, which according to his own statements is not an organization but “three private individuals who possess a burning passion for the wolf and the wild.”

the Organizers estimate that around 3,000 persons who are disadvantaged had met up in front of the Eidsvolls place Saturday afternoon. All photos: Jenny Dahl Bakken

The advance had over 5,000 people set themselves up as participating on Facebook. Around 3000 met. Among appellantene was a zoologist Petter Bøckmann, NOAH leader Siri Martinsen, Wwf secretary general Nina Jensen and politicians from three parties – Ola Elvestuen from Left, secretary Kari Elisabeth Kaski of the SV, and member of parliament Rasmus Hansson from Miljøpartiet the Greens (MdG). The demonstration was a protest against the jaktkvota 47 wolf, 24 of them within the ulvesona.

So, first, the much talked about petition. When Nationen wrote about it, it had around 50,000 signatures. When it was handed over to the climate – and miljøminister Vidar Helgesen, was the top in around 62.000. At the time of writing is the top of 64.000. And ulvevernerne opened the celebration on Saturday by giving answers to a couple of myths about the petition:

Some people claim that it is only foreigners or Oslofolk who have written below. But it is not true. Only 11 per cent of the signatures are from overseas, and 19 per cent from Oslo. This is a broad campaign, where people from all over the country – also rovdyrutsatte County – have signed on, said Marianne Mikalsen, one of the three that stands behind Ulvens day.

Then it went kind of kinds of appeals. Biologiprofessor Harald Kryvi from the University of Bergen was the first out.

– All the large mammals are a part of the Norwegian biodiversity. It also applies to these predators, he said, and meant stortingsflertallets attitude to ulvejakta indicated that they had slept in the biologitimen.

– We shall win!

There was great fighting spirit from both appellanter and the audience, and it was a varied bunch of people who spoke. The three politicians Rasmus Hansson (MdG), Ola Elvestuen (V), and Kari Elisabeth Kaski (SV) sounded almost as if they were partifeller on the podium.

This is a pointless utskyting. There are lower losses with the knowledge of the wolf than in the past. The administration has worked, ” said Elvestuen.

– We can not accept that a parliamentary majority has banished the wolf to a eternal place on the list of endangered species, said the socialist left Kaski.

Kari Elisabeth Kaski (SV) and Ola Elvestuen (behind, V) were two of the three politicians who spoke at the event.

” We’re going to win this fight, said Hansson.

All three promised to fight against the current ulvepolitikk in Parliament.

Required several wolf

Several of the appellantene thought it not enough to maintain population at the current level.

Let us leave nature to our posterity in a better condition than we ourselves inherited. Then we need to establish a biologically viable population of wolves. It means more wolves in Norwegian nature, said leader for biodiversity Arnodd Håpnes from the pulpit.

Many of the turnout had posters with text or image of the wolf on. These young people seemed like they cheered most of the Nature and Youth-leader Ingrid Skjoldvær, that held appeal.

Several of those who had met before, expressed that they believed sauenæringa had to have better oversight of their sheep, and that they were a spesialinteressegruppe who could not get to dictate the Norwegian ulvepolitikk. Others, again, as a zoologist Petter Bøckmann, pointed out that sauebøndene have real problems with the wolf, but that there are solutions that do not involve such a dramatic utskyting.

Some of the appellantene also said that wolves are not dangerous, and that it be built up a skrekkbilde of the wolf, which is not correct.

Hunter Ivar John Knai was concerned about the tone of the debate, and would counteract what he called the cultivation of conspiracy theories and the construction of fiendebilder – on both sides.

Will expand the zones

the Left-politician Ola Elvestuen said to Nationen after the demonstration that he believes the current policy works.

– the Management works. The number of sheep taken by wolves, is decreased.

– Then well a part point out that it is caused by that the number of sauebønder and sheep in ulveområdene has gone down?

– This is two-fold. The administration adds that it should be grazing, and ulvesoner where the wolf shall be given priority. We have to relate to. Within ulvesonene must sauebøndene conduct active preventive work. If we strengthen the public administration, there is also room to expand the zones, and room for multiple ynglinger than today, ” he says.

finally came the Left-politician with a small twinge to Gunnar Gundersen and the stortingsvedtattet the requirement of an independent genetic mapping of the wolf in Norway.

” What is disappointing, is that it also attacks the fagligheten. Norway has some of the best ulveforskerne in the world, ” he says.
